• Our Thanks from the family of Sgt. Robert Emmet Norrell KIA 1944

    Dear Parish Council Members,

I wanted to express  appreciation and gratitude for the memorial you dedicated to the eight airmen killed as a result of the plane crash in 1944. While doing some genealogy research ,I discovered the web page devoted to your efforts to honor the crew members that died in North Tuddenham during WW2. I spoke  today with the nieces of “Robbie”  Norrell. Robbie was my mother’s first  Cousin. His death left heartbroken family members who we only wished could have known the  lasting  memorial you all created. Please extend our thanks to the people of Tuddenham from the Shea and Norrell descendents in the United States.

    Sincerely

  • Wartime B24 Bomber

A memorial plaque was dedicated, and a service held on the Common at 11am 18th May 2010 in memory of the crew of a B24 bomber, which crashed in North Tuddenham on 21 April 1944.

The aircraft  “Esquire Lady” crashed on farmland near the common shortly after returning to it’s base at Wendling Airfield, after a cancelled mission due to bad weather. The dedication was attended by some 100 people or more including; the rector of Wendling, who conducted the service, a US Honour Guard from RAF Lakenheath, representatives from the RAF Association and the Royal British Legion.

The plaque was unveiled by Annette Tison, a researcher for the 392nd Bomb Group.

8 men were lost their lives in the crash and there were 2 survivers.
