Wartime B24 Bomber

A memorial plaque was dedicated, and a service held on the Common at 11am 18th May 2010 in memory of the crew of a B24 bomber, which crashed in North Tuddenham on 21 April 1944.

The aircraft  “Esquire Lady” crashed on farmland near the common shortly after returning to it’s base at Wendling Airfield, after a cancelled mission due to bad weather. The dedication was attended by some 100 people or more including; the rector of Wendling, who conducted the service, a US Honour Guard from RAF Lakenheath, representatives from the RAF Association and the Royal British Legion.

The plaque was unveiled by Annette Tison, a researcher for the 392nd Bomb Group.

8 men were lost their lives in the crash and there were 2 survivers.
